The Cricketing Journey of Rishabh Pant

Rishabh Rajendra Pant (born October 4, 1997) is an Indian left-hand batsman and Wicket-Keeper who plays for India, Delhi, and the Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League.

He is often depicted as the new MS Dhoni due to his great wicket-Keeping and aggressive batting style. Rishabh Pant made his first-class debut on 22 October 2015 in the 2015–16 Ranji Trophy and his List A debut on 23 December 2015 in the 2015–16 Vijay Hazare Trophy.

In the 2016–17 Ranji Trophy, while playing a match against Maharashtra, he scored 308 runs in an innings, becoming the third-youngest Indian to score a triple century in first-class cricket.

On 6 February 2016, he scored a century for India U-19 in the World Cup, guiding India into the semi-finals and on same day he was bought by Delhi Daredevils for Rs 1.9 crore.

In January 2017 he was named in India’s T20 squad for their series against England. In February 2017 he made his debut for India in the third T20I against England at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore. He was the youngest player for India to make a big appearance in a T20I match at the age of 19 years 120 days before Washington Sundar.

In June 2017, he was named in India’s squad for a limited overs visit toward the West Indies. In February 2018, he was named in India’s T20I squad for the Nidahas Trophy 2018.

In July 2018, he was named in India’s Test squad against England. He made his Test debut on 18th August 2018 against England.

In June 2019, Pant was called up to India’s squad at the ICC CWC 2019 as Shikhar Dhawan was ruled out of the World Cup with a fractured left thumb during India’s game against Australia.

Records and Achievements:

  • He made the fastest century 18 balls in U-19 World Cup 2016.
  • He holds a record of scoring quickest century 48 balls in Ranji Trophy against Jharkhand 2016.
  • First Indian batsman to score a six as the first shot on Test debut 2018 against England.
  • First Indian Wicket-Keeper to hit a century in England.
  • He won Emerging Player of IPL 2011 Award in 2018.
