Rohit Sharma is an Indian Cricketer and a right-handed opener batsman who currently holds the Vice-captain of Indian National Cricket Team for ODI and T20. He is also known as the “Hitman”.
Rohit Sharma play for Mumbai in domestic league and captains Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League. He is the first Skipper to lead his teams to the Fourth IPL title. He is currently the only player in the cricket history to score three double hundreds in ODIs.
He is also the only batsman in the world to hit five centuries in a single World Cup. In 2019 ICC CWC, Rohit Sharma won Golden Bat for most runs in the tournament.
Background
Rohit Sharma was born in the middle-class family on April 30, 1987 in Nagpur, Maharashtra. His father worked in a transport firm storehouse. He was raised by his grandparents and uncles because of his father’s financial condition. During Weekends, he used to visit his parents, who lived in a single-room house in Dombivli.
Career
Rohit Sharma joined a cricket camp in 1999 at the age of 12 with his uncle’s money. His coach at the camp was Dinesh Lad who asked him to change his school, which had better cricket facilities. He started his cricketing journey as an off-spinner before lad noticed Sharma batting capabilities and promoted him from number eight to open innings in the Harris Shield school tournament, scoring a century on debut as an opener.
In 2006, Sharma made his First class debut against New Zealand A, followed by his Ranji debut for Mumbai in the 2006-2007 season, during which he scored a double-century against Gujarat.
In the India tour of Ireland at Belfast in 2007, he made his ODI debut, but did not get a chance to bat in the match. He was the part of inaugural ICC World Twenty20, 2017 which was won by India beating Pakistan on Final. Due to inconsistent and poor performance he was dropped from the Indian Squad for 2011 World Cup.
In 2013 ICC Champions Trophy, he was promoted as the new opening batsman for India along with Dhawan. This opening pair helped India win the champions Trophy and Tri-nation series in the West Indies.
In 2014, he became the first person to score 264 runs in a single ODI cricket match against Sri Lanka at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata. On 2nd October 2015, he scored 106 against South Africa in the First T20I at Dharamshala and became the second Indian cricketer to have scored centuries in all formats of the game after Suresh Raina.
In 2018, he was selected to lead India for the Nidahas Trophy as Virat Kohli was resting. India won the tournament after winning the final against Bangladesh.
In 2019, he was named the vice-captain of India’s squad for the ICC Cricket World Cup. Sharma became the first batsman to score five centuries in the same WC tournaments equaled Sachin’s record for most centuries in World Cup matches. He finished the tournament as the leading run-scorer for India, with 648 runs in 9 matches.
Indian Premier League
Rohit Sharma is one of the most prosperous players in IPL. He was brought by Deccan charges in 2008. He was sold for USD 2 million to the Mumbai Indians in 2011 auction. He became the first captain ever to win the IPL four times, after beating Chennai in the 2019 final by 1 run in a nail-biting competition.
Personal Life
Rohit met Ritika Sajdeh, his friend, manager, and girlfriend of six years to whom he was first introduced by senior player Yuvraj Singh in 2008. They got married on December 13th 2015 and lived in 4-BHK apartment in Ahuja tower. Worli, Mumbai. The Couple was blessed with a baby girl who was named as Samaira.
