Mzansi Super League 2019: Squads, Schedule and Preview

Mzansi Super League 2019

The 2019 MSL is the second edition of the Mzansi Super League Twenty20 cricket tournament in South Africa. MSL 2019 started from November 08, 2019.

The tournament will be played among six teams including Cape Town Blitz, Durban Heat, Jozi Stars, Nelson Mandela Bay Giants, Paarl Rocks and Tshwane Spartans.

Mzansi Super League 2019 Team Preview:

Cape Town Blitz:

Cape Town team are fan favorites having a strong talent wise team in like legendary Dale Steyn and electrifying Quinton de Kock, also international talent left arm quick Wahab Riaz and England all-rounder Moeen Ali and local stars, Malan and Linde.

Gregory Mahlokwana is the player to watch this season because of his unique ability to bowl left arm orthodox and right arm off spin. Ashwell Prince is the coach of the Cape Town team.

Quinton de Kock (c), Wahab Riaz, Liam Livingstone, Steyn, Sisanda Magala, Anrich Nortje, Asif Ali, Mohammad Nawaz, Malan, Linde, David Bedingham, Vernon Philander, Marques Ackerman, Gregory Mahlokwana, Aviwe Mgijima, Khwezi Gumede and Moeen Ali.

Last Season Performance:

Top batsman: de Kock – 412 runs at 58.80

Top bowler: Dale Steyn – 12 wickets

Durban Heat:

Durban finished at the bottom of the table last year having won only three games. With new arrival former India and South Africa national coach Gary Kirsten is now in charge and finisher hitters Phehlukwayo, Miller and Bopara, along with bowling combination of kyle Abbott and Maharaj, might be improve for Durban this season.

Dane Vilas (c), Phehlukwayo, Alex Hales, Miller, Ravi Bopara, Keshav Maharaj, Kyle Abbott, Khaya Zondo, Marco Jansen, Dupavillon, Sarel Erwee, Malusi Siboto, Prenelan Subrayen, Wihan Lubbe, Shaun von Berg, Robert Frylinck and Wesley Marshall.

Last Season Performance:

Top batsman: Zondo (216 runs at 30.85)

Top bowler: Kyle Abbott (10 wickets)

Jozi Stars

Defending Champions, are looking for retain the trophy in this season. Pakistani all-rounder Shoaib Malik replace Universal boss Chris Gayle and South African seamer Rabada are the key men in chasing of more success. Jozi stars will be tough to beat this season.

Wandile Gwavu, assistant coach of South African U19 team is the coach of the Jozi Stars team.

Bavuma (c), Rabada, Gayle, Shoaib Malik, Rassie van der Dussen, Simon Harmer, Ryan Rickelton, Aaron Phangiso, Hendricks, Dan Christian, Duanne Olivier, Lizaad Williams, Sinethemba Qeshile, Nono Pongolo, Eathan Bosch, Delano Potgieter and Dane Paterson.

Nelson Mandela Bay Giants

The Bay Giants have retained a large portion of their key players from the debut MSL as JJ Smuts will lead the team once again and he will be upheld by experienced World Number One T20 bowler Imran Tahir and World Cup winning opening batsman Jason Roy

Former South African all-rounder and former South African national team coach, Eric Simmons is the coach of the Nelson Mandela Bay Giants team.

Paarl Rocks

Paarl finished third in the inaugural season and they will look forward this time as they have star batsman Faf du Plessis leading the team once again and all-rounder JP Duminy. Toyona is the coach of the Rocks team.

Tshwane Spartans

Spartans disappointed last season having stars player in their squad led by AB de Villers and Eoin Mogan but they won only four games and finished fifth on the table.

This year Klaasen will lead the team and Tom Curran joined the squad making much stronger, while they have retained the last year Sipamla, who took 16 wickets and his performance brought him into the spotlight for National team. Mark Boucher is the coach of the Tshwane team.
