Elyse Villani and Lizelle Lee initiated the Hurricanes’ counter with a strong start, racing to 51. But, Sophie Devine flipped the script, catching Lee out in the field and sparking a quick hit of outs, leaving the Hurricanes reeling at 71 for 5. Devine kept the disruption going with a fantastic 4 for 26 run, scattering the Hurricanes’ main hitters, Heather Graham and Suzie Bates, back to the dugout. Things looked gloomy at 95 for 6, with the Hurricanes sensing loss. However, Kathryn Bryce and Lauren Smith refused to cave. Keeping their cool, the duo built a sturdy, unbroken 44-run stand for the eighth wicket, guiding their team to victory. Bryce’s firm 34* and Smith’s support sealed the win, pushing the Hurricanes past the Scorchers in the standings.
The Hurricanes moved up to fourth place with this win, narrowly beating the Sydney Sixers. The Hurricanes have 10 points and a good net run rate at +0.189. The Sixers aren’t out of the race with eight points and a -0.367 NRR. But, they need a big win against the Brisbane Heat in the last league game to outdo the Hurricanes.
