Happy to bounce back

Losing to Punjab Kings after scoring 261 runs was a difficult pill for KKR to swallow.

After a disappointing performance in the previous match. Varun Chakravarthy was happy to bounce back and contribute in Kolkata Knight Riders’ win over Delhi Capitals. Furthermore, he credited his team’s support for his improved performance.

“Abhishek Nayar came up with many tactics, he personally helped me a lot. Shah Rukh bhai told me, ‘Don’t take it personally, this IPL is going in a crazy way. Just don’t self-doubt yourself.’ It was a good performance from my side because the last match was hurtful. This pitch offered more turns. That was the difference.”

said Varun.

While KKR easily chased down courtesy to an aggressive opening pair, they did well to restrict DC to 154.

IPL 2024 stats: DC wins the toss and opts for batting

DC won the toss and opted to bat first.

Naturally, they were hoping to put up a large score on a pitch that has historically yielded high totals this season.

Prithvi Shaw started the game by hitting the first three legal deliveries for fours off Mitchell Starc.

Although DDC got off to a good start, they lost wickets at regular intervals. Hence, unable to capitalize on their early momentum. Shaw took a wicket in the second over by bowling down the leg side.

Jake Fraser-McGurk promised to live up to his reputation. In addition to slamming Starc over long-on for a six and then hammering a four through the off-side. He lost his wicket when attempting to go over the leg-side.

Nonetheless, he found Venkatesh Iyer at deep square-leg, where he made an excellent catch leaping forward.

IPL 2024 stats: Key wicket by Arora

Arora took a key wicket by casting Shai Hope, leaving DC at 37 for three. Pant and Porel tried to stabilize the innings, with Pant playing aggressively with scoop shots in his 27-run innings.

KKR continued to peg DC back with wickets at regular intervals. Harshit Rana made it through to Porel with a score of 68.

Moreover, Varun Chakaravarthy’s spin bowling caused frequent issues for DC during the middle overs.

While Pant and Axar Patel tried best to maintain the offensive momentum. Pant had escaped an opportunity early in Chakaravarthy’s reign. He then top-edged one, which was collected by Shreyas Iyer on the off-side.

Soon later, Tristan Stubbs joined his captain in the dressing room after edging one into Phil Salt’s gloves off Chakaravarthy.

More on IPL 22024 stats, Sunil Narine and Chakaravarthy took key wickets for DC, who were struggling at 111 for eight. Kuldeep Yadav’s rearguard action helped DC reach a total past 150, with him scoring his highest Tata IPL score of 35.

DC’s turnaround was a nice one since it gave their bowlers something to aim at. However, the manner Salt began batting knocked DC off course. This put KKR solidly in possession of the match. Narine, on the other end, was a spectator as he scored 15 in that combination, including three boundaries.

DC bowling coach James Hopes stated that his team intended to put up a large total and defend it. But struggled when the KKR spinners received some help on the pitch.

“Our mistake probably lay in that we didn’t recalibrate our sights on something slightly lower,”

said Hopes.
