India’s Women’s T20 World Cup campaign has suffered a setback after all-rounder Shreyanka Patil was ruled out of the tournament with an ankle ligament injury. Legspinner Prema Rawat has been named as her replacement, earning her first call-up to the senior national team.
Patil sustained the injury during India’s match against the Netherlands on Wednesday in Leeds. She was stretchered off the field just one ball into her bowling spell after twisting her right ankle while chasing down a ball hit toward mid-on. The team’s physiotherapist rushed onto the field after Patil was unable to put any weight on her leg. Scans later confirmed the ankle ligament damage that had ended her World Cup campaign.
Shreyanka Patil’s Injury Struggles Continue
This is not the first time injuries have disrupted Patil’s career.A finger fracture in July 2024 had already cost her a place in that year’s T20 World Cup. Shin splints in both legs followed, and then a stress reaction in her wrist kept her out of the game for almost a year. She fought her way back during the 2025 Women’s CPL and went on to play a part in Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s title-winning run in WPL 2026.
Her latest injury comes at a crucial point in the tournament, with India currently unbeaten after wins over Pakistan and the Netherlands. The team’s next match is scheduled against South Africa on Sunday in Manchester.
Prema Rawat Earns Maiden India Call-Up
Rawat, 24, has played two seasons of the WPL with Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Before her call-up, she was part of the India A squad preparing for a six-match white-ball series in England, with the first T20 set for June 20 in Northampton. She was also a key contributor to India A’s title win at the Rising Stars Women’s Asia Cup, taking eight wickets at an economy rate of 4.27 during the tournament.
Her inclusion in the senior T20 World Cup squad has triggered further changes down the line. Niki Prasad has replaced Rawat in the India A T20 squad for the series against England A, while Minnu Mani has been added to the India A one-day squad for the same tour.
