Uncapped Sussex player Henry Crocombe has signed a two-year contract as part of the England and Wales Cricket Boardโs expanded 39-player list for the 2026-27 season on 12 October 2026.
Crocombe becomes the first England men’s player to secure a multi-year central contract before making his international debut. The ECB increased the overall playing group from 30 to 39 players for the 2026/27 cycle, offering 30 full central contracts and nine development deals.

Historic Two-Year Deal for Uncapped Fast Bowler Crocombe
Crocombe earned his two-year deal after producing outstanding domestic performances during the County Championship season. The right-arm quick took 40 wickets at an average of 23.52 in Division One. He grabbed national attention by taking back-to-back hat-tricks against Somerset and Essex.

England selectors previously named Crocombe in the 16-player One Day International (ODI) squad for the upcoming tri-series against Pakistan and Sri Lanka in Pakistan. Speaking at the Toyota PCA Awards, Crocombe stated that he wants to improve his white-ball cricket to make himself available for England across all formats.
His contract forms part of an ECB strategy to lock in talent early. Managing Director of England Men’s Cricket Rob Key defended offering multi-year terms to unproven international cricketers. Key explained that two-year contracts allow the national management team to build long-term development plans for promising fast bowlers.

Seven players joined Crocombe and Cox in earning new full central contracts for the first time. Tom Banton, Sam Cook, Emilio Gay, Matthew Fisher, and Dan Lawrence signed one-year full contracts.
Selectors also renewed one-year central contracts through to September 2027 for eight players. These players comprise Rehan Ahmed, Shoaib Bashir, Liam Dawson, Saqib Mahmood, Jamie Overton, Ollie Pope, Matthew Potts, and Phil Salt. Off-spinner Bashir retained his deal despite playing only two Tests during the previous contract year.
The ECB awarded nine development contracts to emerging talents. These deals cover James Coles, Mason Crane, Josh Hull, Eddie Jack, Ben McKinney, Liam Patterson-White, Thomas Rew, Matthew Revis, and Mitchell Stanley. Under this system, the ECB pays half of each player’s county salary and adds a 25 per cent top-up.
